Saakashvili, Putin Hold Informal Meeting

On August 27 Georgian President Mikheil Saakashvili and his Russian counterpart Vladimir Putin held an informal meeting in Kazan, where they participated in the summit of the leaders of the Commonwealth of Independent States (CIS) the previous day.

Vladimir Putin welcomed the cooperation with Georgia within the frames of the Commonwealth of Independent States (CIS), as well as on a bilateral basis.

?I am sure that we have much to discuss about cooperation,? RIA Novosti quoted Putin as saying.

?The fundamental problems between our countries were created not during my or your governance. But it is possible to solve them during our governance,? Saakashvili said.

President Saakashvili reiterated that the “civilized solution” of the issue of Russian military base withdrawal from Georgia became possible thanks to the “political bravery” of Vladimir Putin, which, according to the Georgian President, paved the way to the new possibilities in Russian-Georgian relations.
