U.S. Approves USD 295.3 mln MCA Assistance for Georgia

The Millennium Challenge Corporation (MCC), which administers the U.S. assistance program Millennium Challenge Account (MCA), has approved a five-year USD 295.3 million assistance for Georgia. 


According to a press release issued by the MCC on August 16, the assistance aims to reduce poverty and stimulate economic growth in the country?s regions. The MCC anticipates that the compact with Georgia will be signed in September.


Georgia has four priority sectors, which will be the focus of this assistance program:


? Rehabilitation of infrastructure and roads in the Samtskhe-Javakheti region ? USD 102,2 mln;
? Development of infrastructure in the regions ? USD 60 mln.
? Rehabilitation of the main gas pipeline (north-south), which serves as the backbone of Georgia?s gas system ? USD 49,5 mln.
? Georgia Development Investment Fund ? USD 32,5 mln;
? Agriculture and tourism sectors ? USD 15 mln;
