Tskhinvali Comments on Batumi Conference

In a statement issued on July 12 the the Foreign Ministry of breakaway South Ossetia said that the Georgian government-sponsored two-day conference on conflict resolution issue, which was held in Batumi on July 10-11, was ?a fake? designed to ?cover up the aggressive intentions of the Georgian government.?

At the conference in Batumi, President Saakashvili described Tbilisi?s proposal over South Ossetia’s status as ?a dream list,? which provides Tskhinvali with everything it desires, except independence.

?South Ossetia does not need to be granted autonomous status within ‘united Georgia’,? the statement reads, according to the South Ossetian Press and Information Committee.

The South Ossetian Foreign Ministry claims that the conference was one more PR action designed for a western audience and which can significantly complicate the process of negotiations over a settlement of Georgian-South Ossetian relations.
