Ruling Party Activists Move into Opposition

Zaur Gurgenidze, who left the ruling National Movement party last week, became the chief of the opposition Republican Party?s regional branch in Terjola, in Imereti region.


Over 50 members of National Movement party in the town of Terjola, led by Zaur Gurgenidze, the founder of the ruling party?s regional organization, left the party on April 13, citing disagreement with party leadership.


The Georgian daily Rezonansi (Resonance) reported on April 19, that a member of the Adjara Autonomous Republic?s Parliament Khatuna Samnidze of National Movement also intends to quit the ruling party and join the Republican Party.
