UNOMIG Calls on Georgian, Abkhaz Sides for Discreet

UN Observers Mission in Georgia (UNOMIG) called on Georgian and Abkhaz sides on September 25 to refrain from any acts and military rhetoric that could undermine situation in the Georgian-Abkhaz conflict zone.

The fears over the possible aggravation of situation in the conflict zone increases as breakaway Abkhazia will celebrate 10 year anniversary of de facto independence.

On September 27, 1993 Georgian troops were ousted from Abkhaz capital Sukhumi. In the following days Abkhazians announced independence.

UNOMIG again confirms its readiness to take all measures to overcome the existing lack of trust between the parties and to continue constructive negotiations on a settlement of the conflict.
