Security Chief Visited Romania, Ukraine

(Tbilisi, July 17, 2003, Civil Georgia) – Secretary of the National Security Council of Georgia Tedo Japaridze arrived in Ukraine on a one-day official visit on July 16 to meet with Ukrainian President Leonid Kuchma.

The sides discussed the issues of bilateral cooperation and the Abkhaz problem. Tedo Japaridze briefed the Ukrainian President over new elements in the Abkhaz conflict resolution.

In the frames of the visit Japaridze also met with the Ukrainian Prime Minister and the Defense Minister.

Georgia is seeking for the involvement of other countries in the peacekeeping operations in Abkhazia.

Before the visit to Ukraine the Security Council Secretary arrived in Romania on July 15. He held meetings with Romanian President, his counterpart and other officials.

The issues of integration in the European Union, expansion of the cooperation with the NATO member states and the problem of Abkhaz conflict resolution were discussed during the meeting.
