Electricity, Water, Gas Shortage in Kutaisi

(Tbilisi, June 20, 2003, Civil Georgia) – The residents of the western Georgian city of Kutaisi, which suffer with the 12-day long shortage of electricity, natural gas and water, continue protest rallies demanding improvement of the social conditions.

The Electricity Wholesale Company cut off electricity supply to Kutaisi due to the non payment of the electricity tax, however the residents of the city claim they pay tax.

The protesters threaten with blocking the Rikoti pass, which connects eastern Georgia with the western part of the country.
