State Inter-Departmental Commission to Work over Combating Terrorism

(Tbilisi, June 11 2003, Civil Georgia) The State Inter-Departmental Anti-Terrorist Commission on June 11 started to work in a new composition. The commission’s activity aims at revealing and combating terrorism. 

“The supreme goal of the commission is to cooperate with the relevant commissions of the United States and Russia, which do their best to eradicate terrorism. At the same time, we are taking into account the recommendations of other states and try to join the anti-terrorism conventions adopted by international organizations”, – Jemal Gakhokidze, the chairman of the commission and the deputy secretary of the National Security Council, told Civil Georgia.

He said the commission consisted of 15 members, including the leadership of the Civil Aviation Department, the President of the National Bank, who would work over the issues of money-laundering, the representatives of the National Security Council and law-enforcement bodies.

The Georgian Security Ministry has elaborated a draft law over combating terrorism and submitted it to the Parliament for consideration.
