Lack of Funding Hinders Data Processing of Census Results

(Tbilisi, January 30, 2003. Civil Georgia) – Georgian State Department of Statistic is unable to finish data processing of the population census held in Georgia last January.

Today representatives of the Department and the donor organizations held talks concerning the issue of additional financing of the Department, which needs 250.000 Lari (approximately USD 113.000) to complete the data processing. 

UNDP, British, French and Danish governments financed the census. Deputy Chief of the State Department of Statistic Joseph Archvadze told Civil Georgia today that the donor organizations agreed to finance further data processing of census results.

According to the preliminary information population of Georgia is up to 4.4 million.
