Security Officials, Parliamentary Committee Discussed Abkhazian Issue

(Tbilisi, January 10, 2003. Civil Georgia) – Today the meeting of the Parliamentary Committee on Defense and Security was held. Interior, Defense and State Security Ministers attended the meeting beyond the closed doors.

Head of the Tbilisi-based Abkhazian government in exile Tamaz Nadareishvili, which also attended the meeting announced that the situation in Georgia’s breakaway region of Abkhazia was the top issue discussed during the meeting.

“We discussed the Russia’s unilateral decision to grant citizenship to the population living in Abkhazia and reopening of the railway route between Russia and Abkhazia,” Tamaz Nadareishvili stated.

“Together with the Abkhazian issue the security situation in the country was discussed,” Chairman of the Parliamentary Committee on Defense and Security Irakli Batiashvili told the reporters after the committee’s meeting.

The power ministers refrain from making any comments regarding the issues, which were discussed in the meeting.
