The Parliament to Discuss Anticorruption Bill

(Tbilisi, March 12, Civil Georgia) – The Georgian Parliament will discuss draft law on “Return of Ungrounded Property to the State” on March 15.

On March 11 the Parliamentary bureau took the decision not to discuss the draft. But after MP Mikheil Saakashvili categorically demanded to discuss the draft, MPs agreed to put the issues in the agenda.

Mikheil Saakashvili stated at the news briefing on March 12 that the discussion of the draft by the Parliament would be the first success in defeating corruption.

The draft law considers return to the state of property, possessed illegally by the governmental officials. Mikheil Saakashvili believes that the fight against corruption should start with this law.

The Justice Ministry elaborated the draft law in summer 2001, when Saakashvili was the minister. That times the draft faced considerable opposition of the government members.
